I really think it’s important to keep fat people in mind when talking about reproductive health care. So many birth control options are not as effective on fat people and none of these options are researched enough, either.
Fat people get worse health care in general and are taken less seriously and many surgeons refuse to work with fat people or offer suboptimal care, which puts them at risk when it comes to surgical abortion.
Not even getting into how being fat is tied to conditions that involve having irregular periods, which means noticing a pregnancy later and having reduced, more expensive options for abortion. Just have less empathetic, less considerate health care workers waiting on the other side.
Fat people should not be left out of reproductive health care concerns. This isn’t even getting into how fat people are left out the flip side of reproductive care (ie getting help getting pregnant and being coached about fertility, being discouraged from getting pregnant at all or trying out options like IVF).
Especially when so much fatphobia is based in classism, ableism, and racism and plays into mortality rates. Like these are vital discussions to be had and they are all connected.

If Roe v. Wade is overturned with abortion being a state by state basis as outlined in the leaked draft, one of the hardest hit areas in the country will be the south.
I’ve compiled a list of abortion funds from the southeast. If you are planning to make some donations, please consider donating to one of these. They provide an incredibly crucial service in states whose politicians want to take away our rights to bodily autonomy.
Also feel free to add other southern states and their abortion funds since this is by no means comprehensive.
Multi-State: Access Reproductive Care - Southeast
Alabama: Yellowhammer Fund , Alabama Cohosh Collaborative
Mississippi: Mississippi Abortion Freedom Fund
Louisiana: New Orleans Abortion Fund, The Goldstein Fund
Florida: Broward Women’s Emergency Fund, Emergency Medical Assistance Inc., Florida Access Network , Tampa Bay Abortion Fund, Women’s Emergency Network
Kentucky: A Fund, Inc., Kentucky Health Justice Network
North and South Carolina: Carolina Abortion Fund
Tennessee: Abortion Care for Tennessee, CHOICES Patient Assistance Fund, Mountain Access Brigade
In light of Roe v. Wade being overturned, I’m going to reblog this.

With the overturning of Roe v. Wade, I need to let people know how dangerous the healthcare privacy climate is now. As someone that works with PHI (protected health information) I want to stress that HIPAA (the law that prevents your health data from being shared) does not apply to healthcare apps. These are incredibly dangerous to use, not only because law enforcement can procure a subpoena to access this information, but because these apps can sell your health data to any third party—potentially anti-abortion activists. Anyone with a uterus should delete not only period trackers, but mental health apps, because if you have a miscarriage or seek an abortion in a state that outlaws it, your mental health history can be used against you.
I would also discourage people from using online therapy apps like BetterHelp and Talkspace. Though BetterHelp says they are HIPAA compliant, that is a lie. They have shared data with Facebook. Their most recent privacy policy update says “We may share your information in connection with an asset sale, merger, bankruptcy, or other business transaction.” Any data breach could put your information at risk. Any health app could suddenly decide to change their privacy policies without notice.
Most responsible clinicians put your health data under (many times literally) lock and key. PHI software like Epic or Cerner have numerous failsafes to prevent data leaks. This is not the case for apps. BetterHelp and healthcare apps in general do not care about this. They only care about money. Do not trust any healthcare provider or app that operates strictly online. And for your own sake, use a VPN if you’re searching for abortion providers or advice.
I would like to second this, but also reiterate. HIPAA mandates the security and protection not only of electronic records but also the physical protection of paper records and provides guidelines and penalties for unauthorized discussion and sharing of PHI. It mandates that any physical records or electronic records that are destroyed must be destroyed in such a way that there is no possible way to retrieve that data. It mandates fines of up to $1,000,000 dollars per violation (ie: if ten records are leaked, there is a fine levied for each record) in cases of willful neglect of privacy protections.
But this only applies to entities who are licensed healthcare providers, health insurance companies, and government programs such as medicare. Apps aren’t covered.
So delete your mental health and period tracking apps because they aren’t protecting you (and, yes, as stated above, are actively profiting off your data), but feel free to go report every ‘nursetok’ sharing patient information and photos as HIPAA violations for investigation by the OCR.
Again: if your Dr. shares confidential medical information you gave them in a clinical setting, you can report them for a HIPAA violation. The only thing you can do to these apps is not use them, they have no legal obligations to protect your privacy.
Another good addition. I am so thankful that other people who work in healthcare and PHI are helping to get the word out and educate others about HIPAA and healthcare privacy. It is so crucially important right now.
And yes, NurseTok is a cesspool and everyone should report them. They’ll tell your most embarrassing, painful patient experiences to an audience of thousands and laugh about you. Flagrantly violating HIPAA for clout. I hope they all get fined and fired.

An important message from the National Lawyers Guild - Detroit & Michigan Chapter
<older man and older woman chatting amiably at a table, their conversation is just on the edge of intelligible>
Denise: Oh, hello!
Bill: We were just talking about you kids.
D: I’m Denise Heberle (HEB-er-lee)…
B: And I’m Bill Goodman.
D: Together we’ve been fighting fascism for over 50 years.
B: And so much has changed over those 50 years, such as the ingredients to a successful firebomb!
D (cheerily): And the glass that bank windows are made of!
B: But there’s one thing that hasn’t changed over 50 years, something that is so important to tell you kids who are new to this movement.
Both: Shut the fuck up.
D: You’re sitting in the police transport van after a protest?
B: Shut the fuck up. In a holding cell, with your comrades?
D: Shut the fuck up. Cop knocks on your door?
B: Shut the fuck up.
D: Texting on an unsecured device?
B: Shut the fuck up. Pulled over by the cops after a protest?
D: Shut the fuck up. Cop just asking about your day?
B: Shut the fuck up. Feds call your mom?
D: Tell your mother to shut the fuck up.
B: Now. Repeat after me. When the cops come calling, what do you do?
(Cut to Bill standing with eight kids)
Kids: Shut the fuck up!
(Cut to Card:
“Shut The Fuck up A Public Service Announcement from
NATIONAL LAWYERS GUILD
Detroit & Michigan Chapter”)
Reminder, because people need to be aware of this even more now.

My guys. the fact that so many of you are reblogging my post about Justice Thomas’s desire to overturn Lawrence with exclamations of “how???” and with such lack of knowledge of our past is really disconcerting.
Gay sex was illegal federally in the United States until 2003 (when Lawrence was ruled on). Before Lawrence many MANY states had “Sodomy Laws” that prohibited gay sex within the state itself and criminalized homosexuality, often using targeting words like “pervert” to describe gay men much the way conservatives talk of “grooming” today. In fact prior to 1962 homosexual sex, as well as certain types of consensual sex acts between differently gendered couples, was a felony with the cost being lengthy jail time and/or hard labor. As of April 2022 14 states have STILL not repealed their sodomy laws. Keep that in mind.
In this last week of Pride month i am BEGGING you. LEARN SOME LGBTQ+ History. The history of your rights, your lack of rights, how recent it all is, how unstable your rights are RIGHT NOW. So many of what should now be our elders were killed during the AIDS Crisis. It is now up to you to learn these things yourself.

Finally, some good news.
This is so great because if anyone is caught impeding or messing with these deliveries, it’s MAIL, that makes it a FEDERAL crime, whoever fucks with these packages gets charged FEDERALLY, they face up to five years in prison.
[ID: A tweet by @ nytimes that reads, “Breaking News: Women can get abortion pills by mail for pregnancies up to 10 weeks without seeing a doctor in person, the FDA ruled. The decision comes as the Supreme Court considers whether to roll back abortion rights or even overturn Roe v. Wade.” Attached is a link to the article and a screenshot of the title and subtitle of the article. The article was published Dec 16, 2021. The title reads, “F.D.A. Will Permanently Allow Abortion Pills by Mail” and the subtitle reads, “The decision will broaden access to medication abortion, an increasingly common method, but many conservative states are already mobilizing against it.” /end ID]
Adding a link that isn’t blocked by a paywall
Resources for anyone that ends up in a restricted state:
Aid Access - they can send you the abortion pill even if you live in a restricted state.
PLUS, you do not have to be pregnant to order them. You can order to have on hand, in case of an emergency.
Repro Legal Helpline (reprolegalhelpline.org) -
Some of the things they can help with above.
Miscarriage + Abortion Hotline (mahotline.org) -
They have a ton of information, and resources in one place.
Also, if you find yourself in a restricted state, you need to be careful of how and with whom you are talking about it. You need to use safe, encrypted messaging and calling.
I also recommend removing any biometric information for unlocking your phone. Use a PIN or password instead of a fingerprint or facial recognition.
